Nadezda Petrovic is the most prominent Serbian painter who sealed the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century with her amazing art. She was born in Cacak in 1873 and died in Valjevo in 1915. Nadezda was trained to be a teacher and went along to the private drawing classes. Although, after education, she could work as a teacher of drawing, she wanted to specialize in painting and went to Germany where she was absorbing European knowledge and artistic developments. In 1910 she was at the Autumn Salon in Paris, painted with the big names of world art such as Kandinsky, Matisse, Bonnard, Vijar. However, at home, her art was incomprehensible and received the negative criticism. After the outbreak of the First Balkan War, she has worked as a nurse on the battlefield and painted the bloody areas. Only after her death, the society recognized her as a significant artist who changed the world even during her life.
Her figure in bronze is located in front of the building Pavle Beljanski, on the square, Trg galerija, in Novi Sad, and represents the work of sculptor Mira Sandic. The figure is set in 1995.
