This cultural institution Museum of Contemporary art of Vojvodina was founded by the Vojvodina Assembly on February 1, 1966, as the Gallery of Contemporary Art Novi Sad. Several times it changed its name because of its nature of business until 2012, when it finally established an identity as a Museum of Contemporary art of Vojvodina. The gallery activity has spread the work of the museum and the art work on the contemporary art theory and practice. Therefore, there was a need to change the last title of the institution in 2012.

Due to the lack of conditions for conducting activities, Museum of Contemporary art of Vojvodina started to work three years after the foundation in a few borrowed facilities in the city, such as Matica Srpska, Youth Tribune, the JNA. From 1984 to 1999 the museum has worked in rented premises within the Sports and Business Centre Vojvodina. After that, it was removed because the Business Center was forcibly closed. A big issue of Museum of Contemporary Art for a few years was the lack of their own space. Exhibitions were organized on the premises of other institutions in the city. 1998 and 2007 were called architectural and urban competitions for the conceptual design of the museum building, but both times were unsuccessful. After that, in 2009 the Provincial government has decided that the former Museum of socialist revolution be used for the needs of Museum of Contemporary Art. Since 2012 the Museum becomes the user of the part of that building and continues to work at the address Dunavska Street 37.
The collection of the Museum counts over the 2500 works of art, including paintings, graphics, sculptures, drawings, films, and photographs from the second half of the twentieth century until today. Creativity comes from the Vojvodina area, from all over Serbia and abroad. Much of the fund consists the collections and individual works which are donations of Vojvodina artist: Bogomil Karlavaris, Milan Kurtz, Milete Vitorovic, Zoran Petrovic, Dusan Milovanovic, Ankica Opresnik, Bosko Petrovic. As for the collection creation from other countries, it brought together some of the most important names in the world of fine art: Victor Vasarely, Hundertwasser, Rafael Soto, Jim Cave and others. The activity of the Museum includes the collection, preservation, study and exhibition of works of art of the modern age and contemporary art.
As part of the Museum in 2006 was established Studio for conservation and restoration that helps to preserve and restore works of art of all kinds.
At the Museum works the Centre for Education which continually gives a contribution to popularizing culture among young people, too. There is also a program of education for the children. The museum regularly organizes free guided tours through the exhibition, organizes workshops through competitions for children in primary and secondary schools and for the students, presentations, debates and interviews with artists. Through various seminars, Museum organizes collaboration with other institutions, teaches about the culture management, technical and environmental art and contemporary music.
The museum was the organizer of detailed projects that have studied the art of the twentieth century on the territory of Vojvodina. Research and museological activity is not the only segment of the work of this institution. As part of its work was the Publishing (1969), also. All previous exhibitions are presented in catalogs which will be evidence material in the future for the study of contemporary art. Department of Publishing has published a comprehensive historical overview of Contemporary Art, numerous monographs artist, studies, and magazines.
The museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 18 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 14 pm. Admission is free.
