Djura Jaksic is known as the greatest Serbian poet of the nineteenth century, but also as a painter. For a time he attended the Academy of Arts in Budapest. In Vienna, he continued to study painting, and then in Munich. In Serbia, he worked as a village teacher, teaches painting and was engaged in painting.
Djura Jaksic spent his artistic days in Skadarlija bars because he was a bohemian. In these places, grew his inspiration for writing and painting. Life had not caressed him, he lived in poverty, and the art was also his consolation and a way of earning.
In the Srpska Crnja, the place where he was born, there is an annual event dedicated to him and a prize is awarded every year for the best collection of poetry.
