The forerunner of the Youth Theatre was the Puppet Theatre, founded in 1932 in the framework of the Sokol Society Novi Sad. The first person who brought a mobile theater scene in Novi Sad with 11 dolls was Dr. Lazar Dragic. Later he became the first manager of the Puppet Theatre. Only after four years of establishment, the theater received its hall in the building of the Memorial Home “King Alexander I”.
After the Second World War in which theatre suffered a lot of damage, it continues to operate under the name “Vojvodjansko Puppet Theater”. Then it changed its name to the “City Puppet Theatre”, and its current name gain in 1968. That same year it organized the first performance with the actors. Youth Theatre is the first puppet theater in Serbia.
In 1991 was formed the dramatic scene and conducted the first performance named “Volsebnici”, directed by Tibor Vajda. In addition to the drama scene, there is a scene for children and have been played in two halls, large and small.
The importance of this theater speaks countless national and international awards, from national and international competitions. More than 20,000 performances were played since the beginning of the theatre which has been seen by several million viewers.
